Privacy Policy
Amitié is a private membership club with an AI concierge that members use through WhatsApp and our website. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Amitié is operated by AMITIE TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED, a company registered in the United Kingdom (“Amitié”, “we”, “us”). We are the controller of your personal information. Contact us at [email protected].
What we collect
- Account details: your email address (which is your sign-in; your password is held by our sign-in provider and never seen by us), name, mobile number, city, the WhatsApp number you connect, and the invitation you joined with (its membership tier and who sent it).
- Membership application: your profession, a short bio, a social media handle if you give one, and the membership tier you choose.
- Identity verification: a selfie and a photo of a government ID (passport, driving licence or national ID card) that you upload when you apply. See “Identity verification” below.
- Identity document number (optional): if you choose to provide one, its type, issuing country and number. The number is encrypted, and only its last four characters are shown back to you.
- Conversations: messages you send to and receive from the Amitié concierge on WhatsApp or the website, including any files or links you share.
- Preferences and memory: things you ask the concierge to remember, and preferences it learns from your conversations (for example dietary needs or favourite places), so it can help you better.
- Reminders, events and invitations: reminders you set, events you host or join, RSVPs, and whether you have chosen to receive invitations from other members.
- Connections (optional): what you share in your connections profile (headline, what you’re looking for and can offer, interests, industries and cities), your visibility settings, trips you tell us about, introductions you request or accept, circles you join, members you vouch for, and private notes you keep about people you’ve met.
- People you nominate: if you nominate someone for membership, their name, contact details and your reason.
- Google account data (only if you connect it): see “Google user data” below.
- Technical data: security and service logs such as request times, error records and rate-limit counters. We do not use advertising cookies or trackers.
How we use it
- To run your membership and sign you in, and to review your membership application.
- To provide the concierge: answering requests, finding venues, drafting messages, setting reminders and organising events.
- To let members host events and, where you have opted in, invite you to them.
- To help members connect: suggesting people to meet, making introductions both sides agree to, telling you who is in town, and following up after events you attended.
- If you opt in, to send you a morning briefing of your day from your calendar.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, spam and fraud, and moderating content.
- To meet legal obligations.
Under UK data protection law, we rely on performance of our contract with you for the service itself, our legitimate interests for security and improvement, your consent for optional features (such as connecting Google or receiving invitations), which you can withdraw at any time, and legal obligation where it applies.
AI processing
The concierge uses AI models to understand and answer your messages. Your messages are processed by Anthropic’s Claude models through Amazon Bedrock, within our own AWS environment. Our model providers do not use your conversations to train their models. AI can make mistakes, so please check important details such as dates, prices and addresses before relying on them.
Google user data
If you choose to connect your Google account, we ask only for the access needed for the features you use:
- Google Calendar (
calendar.freebusy,calendar.events): to check when you are free, to tell you what’s in your diary when you ask (and in a morning briefing, if you switch it on), and, when you confirm, to add bookings and events to your calendar. If you and another member have both agreed to an introduction and both connected Google, we can suggest times you’re both free; they see only the suggested free times, never your events. - Gmail (
gmail.send): to send an email on your behalf, such as a venue enquiry, only after you have seen the message and confirmed it should be sent. - Reading Gmail, beta testers only (
gmail.readonly): during our beta, invited testers can choose to allow read-only access, so the concierge can look up emails when they ask (for example a booking confirmation or flight time). When you ask, we search your mailbox and read the sender, subject, date and Gmail’s short preview of matching emails to answer you; we do not store your emails. Members who aren’t invited testers are never asked for this access, and we cannot read their inbox.
We use Google user data only to provide these features to you. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI or machine-learning models. People at Amitié do not read it unless you ask us to (for example, for support), it is needed for security or to investigate abuse, or the law requires it. Your Google access credentials are stored encrypted and are never shown to the AI model.
You can disconnect Google at any time from your account page or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. When you disconnect, we revoke our access and delete the stored credentials.
Amitié’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Amitié, under contracts that restrict how they use it:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, storage and AI processing (including Amazon Bedrock), primarily in the London region.
- Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform): to deliver messages between you and Amitié.
- Google: place search, and your Google account if you connect it.
When you host or join an event, other attendees and the host may see your first name and RSVP status. We never share your phone number with other members without your permission. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of members or the public. We do not sell your personal information.
Connections and introductions
- Your connections profile is visible to other members only if you switch on “discoverable”, and never while you’re in incognito mode. Other members (and the concierge, on their behalf) can then see your first name, headline, what you’re looking for and can offer, interests, industries and cities. They never see your phone number or email address from your profile.
- Introductions are double opt-in: your WhatsApp number is shared with another member only after you have both agreed to the introduction.
- After an event, you can tell us privately who you’d like to stay in touch with. Nobody is told about a one-sided choice; we introduce you only if they chose you too.
- Notes you keep about people you’ve met are private to you.
- Nominations: if a member nominates you, we hold your name, the contact details they gave and their reason, only to consider inviting you. We don’t contact you automatically, and we delete a nomination within 12 months if it doesn’t lead to membership. To have it deleted sooner, email us.
International transfers
Some providers may process information outside the UK, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Identity verification
Amitié is a members’ club and every application is reviewed. To confirm you are who you say you are, our membership team looks at your selfie and ID photo and compares them by eye. We do not use automated facial recognition or create biometric templates. Photos are re-encoded in your browser before upload, which removes location and device information, then stored encrypted in a private store that only named members of our membership team can view, for a few minutes at a time; every view is logged. The concierge never sees them. We rely on your consent, which you give when you submit your application. We delete the photos 90 days after a decision on your application (or sooner if you close your account) and keep only the decision itself.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. When your membership ends we delete or anonymise it, unless we must keep some of it longer for legal, tax or security reasons. You can ask us to delete specific memories or conversations at any time.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sensitive fields such as identity document numbers and Google credentials have additional encryption, and access within Amitié is restricted to those who need it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict some processing. If you live in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, such as California, you have the rights that law gives you, and we will not discriminate against you for using them. To make a request, email [email protected].
WhatsApp messages and invitations
We message you on WhatsApp to respond to your requests, send reminders you set, and share updates you have asked for. If you opted in to member invitations, you can reply STOP INVITES at any time to stop them.
Children
Amitié is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We will update this policy as Amitié develops and change the date above when we do. We will tell you about significant changes before they take effect.
